The inspector-general of police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the arrest of 26 suspects in connection with the violent attack that occurred in Yelewata LGA of Benue state on June 13.
The attack which sparked a nationwide outcry, led to the death of over 100 persons with many others injured and properties worth millions of Naira destroyed.
At a stakeholders’ meeting held after the attacks, President Bola Tinubu knocked Egbetokun over the “failure” of the police to apprehend perpetrators of the attacks in the state.
The president said he expected the police to have made some arrests after the attack in Yelewata.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja today June 24, Egbetokun said the arrested suspects will be arraigned in court soon including the 22 suspects who were arrested in Jos over the gruesome murder of nine persons travelling to Quanpan for a wedding.
The IGP clarified that out of the 28 arrested persons, 2 have been cleared as they were only used as bait to arrest the 26 suspected masterminds.
