US Vice President Kamala Harris thanks Biden for endorsement, commits to unity, defeating Trump

United States Vice President Kamala Harris has expressed gratitude for Joe Biden’s support following his endorsement for her to be the Democratic nominee for the presidential election.

Harris said, “On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the US and for his decades of service to our country.”

US President Biden on Sunday endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for the presidential election. Biden’s endorsement of Harris comes shortly after he withdrew from the presidential race following public pressure, particularly from his party members.

In a tweet, Harris said, “I’m honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination.”

She emphasised her commitment to party unity and national solidarity, stating, “I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.”

Concluding with a call to action, Harris urged supporters, “If you’re with me, add a donation right now.”

SaharaReporters earlier reported that Biden had endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee for the presidential election.

In a post on his X account on Sunday, Biden said picking Harris as his running mate in 2020 was the best decision he ever made.

He said, “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term.

“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”

Earlier on Sunday, Biden withdrew from the presidential race.

Biden had faced pressure to withdraw from the race since his debate with rival Donald Trump which was recently organised by CNN, in which many adjudged the president to have performed woefully.
