Barack Obama issues statement on George Floyd’s death

Former US President Barack Obama has taken to his twitter handle to issue a statement on the death of George Floyd who was suffocated by cop in Minnesota.

In his statement, Obama discussed some of the conversations he’s had with friends since Floyd’s death, sharing one email from a middle-aged black businessman who said the deadly incident “is a metaphor for how the system so cavalierly holds black folks down.”

The former president encouraged all Americans, including police officers “who take pride in doing their tough job the right way,” to help create a “new normal” that eliminates the longstanding biases, bigotry and inequality in the country.
