Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has declared that those who are agitating for the restoration of the state of Biafra are not representing Ndi-Igbo or the nation’s interest.

The Vice President spoke on Friday in Abia State, where he noted that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration would end the “reign of terror” in the South East.

According to Shettima, President Tinubu is worried about the economic devastation inflicted on the region owing to the agitation and rising attacks promising to restore normalcy.

Speaking while unveiling the Peace in South East Project (PISE-P) by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, in his country home, Bende, the Vice President said: “He (President) is acutely aware that our commitment to Nigeria’s future remains incomplete as long as we grapple with the sinister operations of economic saboteurs who masquerade as advocates for the Ndi-Igbo.

“That’s why he’s determined to utilise all available resources to ensure that the peace we’re establishing in this region is not cosmetic, and we can’t guarantee it unless all of us see through the falsehoods and propaganda that have become weapons against our unity.

“The problem we are here to solve as a community, as an Umunna, is a creation of self-serving criminals who do not represent the interests of the Ndi-Igbo and Nigerians. Mr. President knows this better than all of us, and that’s why he has never held any group accountable for the infractions of law-breaking individuals who identify as their members. This, I believe, is the democracy we have all chosen,” he maintained.

SaharaReporters reported on Friday that gunmen in military uniforms attack convoy of the acclaimed godfather of politics in Anambra State, Chief Chris Uba and killed two police officers his country home, Uga junction in Aguata Council area of Anambra state.

The hoodlums also attacked Ames community in the same Aguata Council area and killed a vigilante and abducted others.

There has been an increase in violent attacks in the South East region following the detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu since June 2021 over his agitation for the restoration of Biafra Republic.

His followers in a bid to press the federal government then led by former President Muhammadu Buhari, declared every Monday sit-at-home in the entire South East region. The enforcement of this order pitted the group with the security agencies, leading to killing of several people and destruction of millions of businesses.
