The management of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Borno State, has named its newly constructed Medical ICT Institute after Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The unveiling ceremony, which formed part of the 110th general meeting of Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) held in Maiduguri on Tuesday, drew top political figures and key stakeholders from across Nigeria’s health sector.
Speaking ahead of the unveiling, the Chief Medical Director of UMTH, Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo, commended the Federal Government’s support for the project, describing the institute as the first of its kind in Nigeria.
He said the facility would significantly boost healthcare delivery and enhance digital capacity among medical professionals.
PUNCH Newspaper quoted him as saying: “The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Muhammad Pate, has demonstrated that so much can be achieved.
“We appreciate your focus and dedication. As at now, I can say we are getting whatever we asked from the Federal Government.
“Today, we are commissioning the first medical ICT centre in Nigeria, named after President Tinubu as a mark of appreciation.”
He, however, noted that about eight newly inaugurated projects, ranging from health facilities to roads and other infrastructure, were named after individuals who have made significant contributions to the growth and development of the hospital.
On his part, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, emphasised that the health sector remains one of the core priorities of President Tinubu’s administration.
The event was attended by the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, his deputy, Usman Kadafur, traditional rulers, members of the state and national assemblies and key government leaders at both local and national levels.
Since President Tinubu assumed office in May 2023, a wave of renamings has swept across Nigeria’s public infrastructure, weaving his name into the fabric of national landmarks.
The newly named ICT institute in Maiduguri joins a growing list of institutions and facilities that now bear Tinubu’s name.
