The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into a disturbing video that has gone viral on social media, showing a young woman giving a few-month-old baby alcohol to drink.

The video, shared by social media influencer @ChuksEricE, has sparked widespread outrage and concern for the child’s safety.

In the video, the woman is seen tearing open a sachet of what is suspected to be Triple Action Bitter with her teeth, drinking from it, and then giving it to the baby.

The police, reacting to the video, described the act as “illegal and dangerous” and emphasised that exposing children to alcohol violates Nigerian child welfare laws and endangers their physical and mental health.

The police subsequently called on the public to provide any valuable information that could lead to the swift apprehension of the woman, saying they can be reached on 09169967000.

The police assured that the child’s safety is their top priority.

The police wrote: “We are aware of this distressing video and are investigating urgently. Exposing a child to alcohol is illegal and dangerous.

“We urge @ChuksEricE and any member of the public with valuable information that could lead to the swift apprehension of this “mother” to not hesitate to provide same. They can reach out to us on 09169967000. The child’s safety is our priority.”

Many social media users have expressed outrage and concern over the video, with some questioning whether the incident was staged for media engagement.

An X user, @ibukun_tayo, bluntly stated, “Some people are not supposed to be allowed to have kids,” highlighting the widespread dismay over the woman’s actions
