Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Saturday formally received 150 beneficiaries of the state’s foreign postgraduate scholarship programme, who recently completed their master’s degrees at prestigious international universities.

A statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi DawakinTofa, said the students arrived at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport at 12:55 pm on Saturday and were welcomed by the governor, his deputy, and other senior government officials.

The graduates, part of the administration’s 1000+1 Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme, were drawn from various institutions. Among them, 150 studied at Sharda University in India, out of a total of 420 first-class holders sponsored under the programme.

Other beneficiaries included 98 from Mewar University, 58 from Symbiosis University, 30 from Kalinga University, 29 from SR University, 23 from Swarnim University, and 33 from the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), among others.

At a reception held at the Government House, Yusuf commended the graduates for their academic excellence, describing the scholarship programme as pivotal to his administration’s vision for human capital development.

“The foreign scholarship initiative has equipped our young talents with advanced skills to drive progress across critical sectors,” he said.
In a move to address skill shortages in vital sectors, the governor announced automatic employment for graduates in engineering, medicine, pharmacy, and other health-related fields.

“This initiative is part of our mission to empower the youth and build a prosperous future for Kano State. We are proud of your achievements and are confident that you will contribute immensely to our development agenda,” Yusuf stated.

The governor also reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the foreign postgraduate scholarship scheme, which he described as a flagship programme of his administration.

“The programme will continue to provide international exposure and advanced training for Kano’s brightest minds, ensuring the state remains on the path of progress,” he added.

It is worth noting that the governor recently visited Indian universities hosting Kano State postgraduate students to assess their academic progress and strengthen partnerships with the institutions.
