Governor Kemp has activated the Georgia National Guard and declared a state of emergency in response to unrest in Atlanta on May 29. At the request of Atlanta Mayor Keisha Bottoms and in consultation with public safety and emergency preparedness officials, Kemp have issued the State of Emergency for Fulton County to activate as many as 500 Georgia National Guard troops. The troops are ordered to protect people and the properties in Atlanta.

The national guard will deploy immediately to assist local law enforcement who are working to subdue unlawful activity and restore peace. The governor says he will continue to make all state resources available to local leaders during this emergency situation.
