FOSAD condemns arson attack on National Open University Study Center, Ezeoke Nsu, Imo State

The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) expresses its deepest condemnation of the recent setting ablaze of the National Open University Study Center in Ezeoke Nsu, Ehime Mbano Imo State, by unknown arsonists. This reprehensible act of violence, driven by a false video report that claimed the facility would be used to relocate and train repentant insurgents, is both disturbing and unacceptable.

FOSAD categorically states that the rumors circulating about the relocation of insurgents to the National Open University Study Center are entirely baseless and unfounded. We strongly condemn the spread of such misinformation, which has led to the destruction of an important educational facility and disrupted the academic progress of students and staff in the region.

Educational institutions should be places of learning, peace, and development, not targets of violence and destruction. The attack on the National Open University Study Center is an attack on education itself, and it is a sad reminder of the dangerous consequences that can arise from the spread of false information.

FOSAD commiserates with the staff, management, and students of the National Open University, who have been severely affected by this tragic incident. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to everyone affected by the arson, particularly those whose livelihoods and academic pursuits have been disrupted.

We call on the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident and ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice. Furthermore, we urge the public to verify information before accepting or acting on it, especially in these times when misinformation can fuel unwarranted violence and chaos.

FOSAD reaffirms its commitment to promoting education and peaceful coexistence across the South-East and beyond. We will continue to advocate for the protection of academic institutions from any form of violence and appeal to the community to support rebuilding efforts for the affected study center.

Signed

Dr Stephen Nwala

President, FOSAD

Dr Uzor Ngoladi

Secretary General, FOSAD
