The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Employees (AUPCTRE), has petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari, over the recent partnership between Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

The petition, dated Sept. 8, was signed by the General Secretary of AUPCTRE, Comrade Waheed Sikiru.

In the petition, the union accused the Registrar General of CAC, Alhaji Garba Abubakar, of maladministration, reckless abuse of power, corruption, incompetence and lack of integrity, among others.

AUPCTRE expressed concern over the significance and strategic importance of CAC to the Nigeria Economy, which it said the Buhari-led administration had done a lot to provide an enabling environment for Ease of Doing Business.

It said regrettably though, the Registrar General had refused to key into that vision since his assumption of duty.

Sikiru explained that due to the maladministration in CAC, the union petitioned the CCB with substantial evidence against Abubakar, which the bureau acknowledged receipt.

He said the union was invited to defend its position; it did and was hoping that justice would be done, but the issues had not been addressed till date.

He said the union was shocked to see the CCB in “unholy partnership’’ with CAC on fighting corruption in the country, in spite of series of corruption allegations hanging on the neck of the Registrar General of CAC, and which had not been addressed by the CCB.

According to the union, Abubakar continues to disregard the ethos and tenets of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, other laws and international conventions.

Sikiru noted that the Registrar General had not stopped his highhandedness, flagrant violation of Company and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), Abuse of power, corrupt practices without due regard to financial regulations in the running of CAC.

AUPCTRE urged the president to intervene and save CAC, employees and the country, and also appealed for investigation into the real reason behind the partnership between CCB and CAC.

Aluta News reports that the House of Representatives had last month accused the CAC management of unnecessary spending and robbing government of revenue.

The House Committee on Finance had threatened to shut down CAC for having a higher expenditure than its generated revenue between 2016 and 2021.

The panel also asked the budget office to suspend budgetary approval for the CAC, until the commission presented a report of all expenditures.

At the interactive session on the 2022-2024 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), organised by the committee, Rep. James Faleke, Chairman of the panel, had also questioned Abubakar on CAC’s operational expenditure.
