Amidst shock about possible decamping of Dr Goodluck Jonathan to the ruling party All Progressive Congress APC ahead of 2023 election, Mazi Dickson Iroegbu has appealed to the former president not to fall for the impending shame that is about to befall him.

Iroegbu who is the convener of Indigenous People of Nigeria described Jonathan as his ‘leader and the father of modern democracy in Africa’. He however counseled Jonathan not to fall for the temptation of joining an amalmagation of individuals who conspired against him in 2015 to destroy his legacies.

Iroegbu further asked Jonathan to endorse and support Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim whom he appointed as Secretary of the Government of the Federation instead of throwing his hat into the ring to contest for president under APC.

The statement made available to DailyBlastNG, read;

“Dear President Goodluck Jonathan, my leader and father of modern democracy in Africa, this is an appeal. Don’t fall for this shame. I love you sir, just like millions of Nigerians. I worked for you in 2011 and 2014 election campaigns. We worked very hard for the transformation of this country. Please sir, don’t fall for this temptation. How can you run for presidency in 2023 under a political amalgamation that ganged up against the success of democracy in Nigeria? I supported you in 2015 election. It will be shameful if you conspire with this destroyers of democracy. I appeal to you sir, don’t fall for this temptation. This is satan at work. Your status is beyond your aspiration for president. You remain an icon in Africa. History has documented your place and there is nothing to struggle for anymore. The best you can do is to raise the hand of one man who was the engine room of your administration, Anyim Pius Anyim, your SGF. I believe that with your guidance and blessing, he will do what you had planned out in 2015 as president of Nigeria. Nigerians are desirous of the bus stop where we were when a bag of garri was affordable by the average poor man, when a bag of rice was N7000, when dollar was less than N200. Nigerians yearn for that glorious and memorable period in our country. Today, people are slaughtered and raped by the day by bandits and terrorists. It is that bad. Be a statesman and shun this temptation. Be a stateman and declare that your love for Nigeria is not tied to you alone. Write your name in gold. God bless President Goodluck Jonathan.”
